When
educators have the tools and support to navigate challenges, children benefit
from more consistent, high-quality learning experiences.
When a teacher
shared that she was struggling to complete lesson plans on time, the challenge
seemed clear to Kori Dippel.
As one of the Early Childhood Resource Center’s Early Childhood Specialists, Kori collaborated with the teacher through curriculum implementation coaching. Their conversations revealed an important insight: the teacher genuinely enjoyed creating lesson plans and had the skills to do so successfully. The challenge tended to surface during periods of overwhelm and burnout, when everyday tasks felt more difficult to manage.
Together, they explored ways to provide support during those challenging times. Through the coaching process, they developed a simple but practical strategy: an “emergency lesson plan” that could be implemented whenever additional structure and support were needed.
When Kori
returned for her next coaching visit, the teacher proudly shared that she had
completed her emergency lesson plan and was already benefiting from having it
available.
Knowing she had
a reliable plan in place brought the teacher peace of mind, reduced stress, and
helped her feel more prepared to navigate the difficult weeks ahead. Most
importantly, the strategy helped ensure children continue to experience
meaningful learning opportunities in the classroom.
The experience
highlights the value of looking beyond an immediate challenge to understand the
factors that influence it. When educators can reflect, problem-solve, and
develop strategies that fit their unique circumstances, they can create systems
that support their professional growth and daily success.
The result was
increased confidence, reduced stress, and a practical tool the teacher can rely
on whenever challenges arise.
Stories like
this demonstrate the benefit of coaching partnerships. By collaborating with
educators to identify challenges, build on established strengths, and develop
sustainable solutions, the Early Childhood Resource Center helps create
learning environments where both teachers and children can thrive.
