The Early Childhood Resource Center’s SUTQ Success Curriculum provides initial and ongoing support to programs that want to become star rated through Ohio’s five-star quality rating and improvement system for child care programs, Step Up to Quality.

The SUTQ Success Curriculum is designed to break down a seemingly overwhelming process of meeting the state’s quality standards into incremental achievements of stars. It includes well-thought-out leveled technical assistance, professional development, and supports throughout the process.

For child care programs wishing to enter into the tiered quality rating and improvement system, we offer the SUTQ 101 Sessions in various locations across the region. SUTQ 101 is designed for non-rated programs and includes four work sessions and one-two technical assistance visits. SUTQ 101 prepares programs to apply for a star rating. Work session topics include:

  • Review of the program standards
  • Understanding forms
  • Introduction to lesson planning, ELDS, Ohio’s Bold Beginning! website
  • Entering information into the Ohio Professional Registry
  • Navigating the Ohio Child Licensing and Quality System (OCLQS)

Step Up To Quality Success Forums are provided for star rated programs who want to apply for a higher star rating or maintain their rating.  Forum topics include identifying and implementing curriculum and assessments, low-moderate-serious risk non-compliance, staff education and training requirements, understanding the SUTQ 3-5 star standards, etc. These meetings will provide a forum to discuss topics related to quality, opportunities to share ideas and connect with peers, and receive professional development. Programs also receive technical assistance to help them achieve their star rating goals.

SUTQ SOS Sessions provide training in collaboration with ODJFS licensing staff on how to build a quality program and better understand licensing infractions that may prevent programs from achieving or maintaining their desired star rating.  Strategies and tips geared to build individual program “Systems of Success” will be shared during each of the sessions.  These sessions are appropriate for Administrators and program staff.
